Lunch and Learn with Lindsay – Issue 16: Imagination is the preview to life’s coming attractions

This is Issue Number 16 and we want to say a huge “welcome” to our new LunchNLearn-ers!  We’ve had some fantastic feedback on the positive impact these mail outs are having and really appreciate your comments. We are busy behind the scenes uploading back Issues to our website so you can catch up with the valuable learning you’ve missed.  As soon as this resource is available, we’ll let you know #watchthisspace.

Today’s learning is prompted by my morning scroll through my LinkedIn feed. I was struck by the number of motivational posts – you know the ones…the messages that encourage you to visualise your best self and to tap into a positive mental attitude #pma particularly during this strange and challenging time (when, let’s face it, many of us have had our fair share of wobbles or loss of “oomph”….).

I wonder how many of you know though that visualisation is not just creating the picture – be that a “mini movie” or Kodak snapshot in your mind.

As sensory creatures visualisation is about tapping into ALL your senses – so combining the picture (seeing) with the sounds (hearing) and emotions and movement (feeling).

Creative visualisation is about using the power of your imagination to build up a rich sensory experience which in turn can act as a powerful motivator. Visualise your best self, an outcome/goal achievement or success and ask yourself:

⭐️what can I see myself doing?

⭐️how do I look?

⭐️who else is there? what are they doing? how do they look?

⭐️what am I saying to myself? what are others saying to me?

⭐️how do I feel?

This is a such a powerful thing to do because, as Albert Einstein so perfectly said

With regards
Lindsay
